Rich People's Cheese

there is quite a big age gap between my sister and i.
when i was younger i could never understand why she would slice and grate her own cheese.
there would always be the big block of cheese in her fridge.
i was clearly the younger - last child kinda sister.
i never did shopping or do a budget.
i was so naive back then to think "wow how expensive can cheese be, just get the grated already."
now as i have become a mother and as my children eat more and more,
i totally get why the block of cheese was sitting in the fridge.
it's because sliced and grated is a rich kinda persons cheese.
the months that i have those 3 extra dollars that allow me to purchase either sliced or grated cheese,
oh wow the excitement that fills my heart knowing that i won't have to grate cheese over the lasagne and the 99.9% chance of grating my finger that goes along with it.
or i could never work out why mothers would "choose" to wear the same outfit on a daily basis.
i also now completely get that.
money is tight.
and i would rather spend it on my kids than myself.
i need it to be summer soon because the parents at school are catching on that i have a 3 day roster with my clothes that repeats EVERY WEEK.
no jokes.
why do you have to walk around doing your groceries with a calculator, aren't you like rich when you get married.
yeh, WRONG.
wow in my 5 year plan that i set 5 years ago,
i had built a big house, had a dog, my kids were in every sport, we have travelled to general conference and europe, we had brand new fancy cars, we had money to burn.
then reality hit.
i am pretty much as poor as i was when we first got married.
but when we get the thing that we save up for i think we appreciate just that little bit extra.
when the kids get to go out for a family date they think it's so very special but it's a rarity.
i'm glad for these times because if it wasn't for these hard times i would never really truly value and appreciate the times that i can buy sliced and grated cheese.
