Third Child

so today, was an experience.
an experience that is totally blog worthy.
i'm sure - or i hope - that i'm not the only one who did this.
we were out shopping,
(which is a very VERY rare experience when you have boys.)
i picked up zayden and smelt that he had done some business in his pants,
my first thought, that will teach me for not packing wipes.
yep, no wipes were packed.
so i put him back down because i thought i could get through a couple more shops before we had to deal with the issue.
one shop later i look down and his pants
- which were white and a light grey-
were now brownish yellow.
mmmh that's right zayden didn't do a number 2,
he had done a number 3 in it's greatest glory.
it was out the legs up his back.
not only did i have no wipes,
i only had a summer wonder suit to change him in.
in the change room we went.
got a whole lot of paper towels,
stripped him down into his birthday suit and instead of sitting still he decided he would roll around.
wow it was a memorable experience.
poor boy got wiped down with rough paper towels and then had to walk around on a freezing cold day with no singlet and a summer wonder suit on.
third child issues.

A Show Is A Show

when i was young i loved going to fair's, shows and markets.
i had such done memories of visiting my family down the coast and going to the husky fair.
i couldn't wait until i was tall enough to go on the vomitron.
the flying chairs and giant slide were among my favourites.
i hope to pass this love to my boys.
fairy floss, dodgem cars, show bags, ferris wheel how can you go wrong.
we took the boys to the hawkesbury show on the weekend.
i'm pretty sure they loved it.
this is the first time makai hasn't been too scared to go on anything.
because it is pretty expensive we limit them on the amount of rides they can have.
they chose the dodgem cars, ferris wheel, train (of course), motor bikes, roller coaster, my choice was the giant slide - jevans choice the basketball game.
they got to play the clown game and eat fairy floss of a stick.
to top it off they got to sit in a fire engine.
every boys dream right there.
the boys thought we were at the easter show and they kept saying how amazing it was and how much they loved us for taking them there,
i was surely not going to correct them after feeling the love lol.
hawkesbury show, easter show not much difference, right?

Our Pic-a-nic

2 sunday's ago we had our half yearly picnic at the temple after general conference.
we are really enjoying this little tradition we started.
it's the perfect place for a relaxing family picnic.
no crowds, clean toilets, scooter track, grassed area, countless free car parks.
what more could you ask for in a picnic destination.
we were talking about how much has changed in the 6 months that had gone.
we have moved house, zayden is walking and finally has some locks on his head, makai is now at kindy and braxton at pre-school.
our picnic blanker got a whole lot bigger and our esky got quadrupled in size.
we have moved house and are about to move wards.
and this is only in 6 months.
6 months ago i knew where we were headed in our lives but now i have no idea.
it's crazy how it can all change in a short amount of time.
the boys are really starting to get into games - which is so much fun.
we played duck duck goose, what's the time mr wolf and had a good old fashion running race.
makai is superbly competitive, braxton couldn't care less and is the family clown.
zayden quite happily stayed by my leg.
zayden also got a taste of his first salt and vinegar chip,
and naturally i said yes with my camera ready in hand for that priceless face below.

Same But Different

i love doing a photo a day,
it really helps me keep a daily journal without writing (because i'm terrible at that) and allows me to capture moments that only a photo can explain.
a photo really does speak a thousand words.
i love this recent photo i took of the boys during our night time routine,
it captures each of their individual personalities so well.

a have - starting from the left
the stirrer
the whiner
the "we did something right with you"-er

jevan and i are always saying how crazy it is that they both came from the same two people but each is superbly different.
in our case not only are their personalities different but the look nothing like each other.
i love their little personalties - most of the times.

Makai Turns Five

my first born turned 5 last wednesday.
i have no idea how that happened?!
they don't lie when they say time will fly.
in our family the birthday-ee gets to pick the adventure for the day.
all makai wanted to do was go on a little train, not a big one - specially a little one.
i found that they were doing train rides at The Pioneer Village in Windsor.
it was perfect for the kids and perfect for our bank account.
the entry was $5 per adult and $3 per school age child.
they had a couple of rides.
the train, the flying chairs (my all time favourite), the mini fire engine and a jumping castle.
you could get on each on of these for $10 per child.
it was such great value for money.
they were not tight with the amount of time you got a go on these rides.
after the rides we took a step back in time and explored the village.
we ate damper, we played games the kids would have played back then, we saw animals, we explored old houses, went up creeky staircases, pumped water but the boys most favourite part was hitting up the good old lolly shop.
the lollies were ridiculously cheap, i could hardly believe my eyes.
in true makai fashion he chose maccas for lunch and pizza for dinner.
this boy has had pizza for the last 4 years on his birthday.
i cannot believe how much he has grown in this short period of his life.
he is always striving to do what is right and doesn't get distracted by others.
his beautiful smile lights up my heart,
he loves being around his cousins and friends.
his favourite colour is still green,
and he is still transport obsessed.
happy birthday to the most handsome 5 year old i know.

An Lesson On Apples

we finished our easter weekend off with apple picking.
we got in the car and travelled to bilpin.
we stopped at the bilpin fruit bowl to tick off this bucket list activity.
if any of you go to do this with kiddo's,
it's a good thing to:
1-check the weather forecast
2- make your kids put on gumboots
i did neither of these,
which got us 20 mins of apple picking time and 5 very muddy pairs of shoes.
the fruit bowl was buzzing so if you go over the easter period try going good friday,
there were barely any apples left to pick.
zayden was happy to eat all the reject apples full of dirt and grass.
not only was this a fun family activity but it also gave the boys a good opportunity to see where apples come from and how they start off small and grow into big apples.
they also do a homemade apple pie here,
for those who know me - i think you can guess how excited i was.
but they had all sold out by the time we got their boo.

Easter Smiles

any type of special occasion is super fun in our household now with the boys being right into believing in both santa and the easter bunny.
being a parent seriously rocks at these times of the year.
not only do you get that priceless smile on their faces when they wake up to realise they have been,
but you have bribery for about 4 weeks leading up to it - it's awesome.
this year in the ormsby household the easter bunny left foot prints all over our house
(i thought it was such a great idea until i had the clean up duty!)
we have a couple of traditions that our family do for easter.

-we read in the scriptures what happened on easter sunday
-we eat hot cross buns and chocolate milk for breakfast
-we have an easter egg hunt
-the boys get something new to wear to church
-we give easter eggs to their family and teachers at church/school

i know that easter is not about the chocolate and the easter bunny,
but seeing their eyes light up, their bright smiles on their faces and the excitement in their voices
(especially braxton's - his goes three pitches higher)
is so worth it.
we do 100% try and teach them the true meaning of easter and why we have it.
and i will take any excuse to buy the boys a new bow tie each,
boys in bow ties are just ridiculously cute.
so i hope your family had a memorable easter just like we did.

on another note - if you are ever looking for cute bow ties or even headbands for little girls, check out little him little me
hannah is so great at what she does and has a great selection of bow ties to choose from.
i am a totally sucker for shopping small.

Best Berry Picker-ers

to start off every good second day of a road trip,
you need to have a breakfast stop at the local bakery.
meat pies, chicken pies, cheese and bacon rolls, cinnamon toast and milkshakes.
breakfast made of champions, i know.
i've always wanted to take the kids across a train track that you can walk on
and right next to the bakery was exactly that.
we took a walk across it - the boys loved it.
and of course mr braxton decided to start running up the train track.
we hopped in the car and started heading to orange but i noticed an old train track that wasn't in use anymore, that's also another bucket list event.
i think abandoned tracks make for a great photo setting,
the mr o so kindly pulled over and we spent a good hour at this train track exploring it.
the boys were amazed and we even got to take home a momento,
mr o found the boys an old nail that had come out.
it now sits on the bookcase in their room - braxton tries to use it as a sword
and we kindly have to remind him at how hard it is.
so back in the car we go and head to our next stop on our adventure.
raspberry picking.
the weather was terrible, the ground was muddy, it was superbly chilly,
the boys had fallen asleep so they were so very grump especially braxton (he's like me).
but against all the odds it was so much fun.
and you know who loved it the most - good old bracky boy.
zayden's method of picking was one for me and one for the container.
our shoes got muddy, we got wet,
we giggled and we made memories.
that ended our second and final day of our easter road trip.
it was the best (from my recollection) the best little break this mumma has had with her boys ever.

Roadtrip To Red Earth

this year thanks to my mum and dad,
our little family spent good friday at the western plains zoo in dubbo.
it was so great to go on a road trip with the boys and explore a new place.
we opted to hire bikes and ride around the zoo.
my butt really didn't thank me for it the next day,
but it was so worth it.
the boys loved being able to be pulled along by the bike.
in the beginning the older two were begging to go slow but by the end they were egging us to go faster to see "who would win the race."
their two favourite animals were the siang monkeys and the tortoises.
they were expecting the turtles to break out into ninja mode - but unfortunately that didn't happen.
we walked to dinner and came home via the Old Dubbo Goal,
which led to a conversation of where bad guys go which lead to a conversation about ironman,
of course that one was started by brax.
this was the perfect start to our little getaway.

a little bit of trivia - dubbo means red earth in aboriginal,
i'm a sucker for all that stuff.
